Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself and
to announce that I am running for a seat on the
Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. I would be
proud to represent the citizens of Buncombe County.
I believe that the majority of people in Buncombe
County want the same basic things: a safe environment
in which to live, work and play; a quality educational
system that will prepare our children to either attend
the colleges of their choice or to pursue their vocational
and professional dreams; and to be free of the burden of
unnecessary expenditures.

Where we want to be is pretty obvious. How we get there and who will lead are the choices
the people have to make. I believe I am qualified to be one of those leaders for the following
reasons:
1.) I grew up in Buncombe County and have lived here almost my entire life. During my
lifetime I have witnessed dramatic changes in our community and I have a long term frame
of reference for future change and growth.
2.) My four children attended and graduated from schools in Buncombe County and I
currently have three grandchildren enrolled in the Buncombe County Schools. I have a
vested interest in making sure that our County government does what is necessary to
support our educational system.
3.) I owned and operated The Asheville Tourists Baseball Team for 26 years. As a business
owner I know what needs to be done to support our local economy. I also have a unique
perspective and experience with how County government operates since McCormick Field
was a County owned property.
4.) During my involvement with professional sports I served on the Executive Committee
for several leagues. I also served on the Board of Trustees for Minor League Baseball - the
governing body that establishes policies and procedures for 172 minor league baseball teams.
5.) I have been involved extensively with local civic organizations - most notably the Rotary
Club - in an effort to give back to my community.
I am excited about the possibility of serving Buncombe County and representing the
citizens of this area on the Board of Commissioners. I ask for the support of registered
Republicans in the primary on May 6th and for everyone's vote in the general election in
November.
Thank you again for this opportunity.
Very truly yours,
Ron McKee
